Angels Unawares
Angels Unawares located at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC depicts the plight of migrants and refugees. Pope Francis commissioned the sculpture to call attention to the lives of migrants and refugees and their many societal contributions.
The half-ton sculpture created by Timothy Schmalz, a Canadian artist, rests over shallow water flowing downhill simulating a skiff traveling over the rivers and seas on their voyage.
